What's the difference between 24V and 40V Greenworks tools?

The 24V range is designed for lighter tasks around the home — hedge trimming, small lawn mowing (320mm), drilling, line trimming, and leaf blowing. Tools are lighter and more compact. The 40V range is built for heavier garden work — full-size lawn mowing (460mm+), chainsaws, brush cutting, and high-powered blowing. 40V tools have brushless motors and more runtime. All batteries within a voltage range are interchangeable — any 24V battery fits any 24V tool, and any 40V battery fits any 40V tool.

Are Greenworks batteries interchangeable between tools?

Yes — that's the core of the Greenworks system. Every 24V battery works in every 24V tool, and every 40V battery works in every 40V tool. However, 24V and 40V batteries are NOT cross-compatible — they're different physical sizes and voltages. Start with a kit (tool + battery + charger), then add skin-only tools to expand your collection affordably.

What does 'skin only' mean?

A 'skin' is the tool without a battery or charger — just the bare tool. If you already own a Greenworks battery and charger in the same voltage (24V or 40V), buying skins is the most cost-effective way to expand your tool collection. Kits include the tool plus a battery and charger.

How do Greenworks tools compare to petrol equivalents?

Greenworks battery tools are significantly quieter (typically 20-40% less noise), produce zero direct emissions, require almost no maintenance (no oil changes, spark plugs, fuel filters, or pull-start cords), and start instantly with a button press. The trade-off is runtime — you're limited by battery capacity rather than a fuel tank. For most residential use, a 4.0Ah battery provides plenty of runtime. For larger properties, a second battery or the larger 6.0Ah option keeps you going.

What warranty do Greenworks tools come with?

Greenworks tools carry a 2 year residential warranty on parts and labour. Rechargeable batteries are covered for 1 year. Consumable parts (blades, belts, filters, cables, batteries) and normal wear are not covered, nor is damage from improper handling, neglect, or unauthorised service. Non-transferable — keep your receipt, original purchaser only. Commercial customers — call us on 0800 800 880 to discuss coverage; we assess case-by-case under the Consumer Guarantees Act. Claims are handled by Trade Tested at 0800 800 880 or support@tradetested.co.nz.

How long do Greenworks batteries take to charge?

Charge times depend on battery size: a 2.0Ah battery charges in about 30-60 minutes, a 4.0Ah in about 60-90 minutes, and a 6.0Ah in about 90-120 minutes. The charger has LED indicators showing charge progress. Greenworks batteries have built-in overcharge protection — you can leave them on the charger safely. For best battery life, store at room temperature and avoid leaving batteries fully depleted for long periods.

Can I use Greenworks tools in the rain?

Greenworks battery tools are not designed for use in heavy rain or wet conditions. Light moisture is generally fine, but avoid submerging the tool or battery in water. Store tools and batteries indoors in a dry location. The battery terminals and charger contacts should be kept dry and clean.

Who distributes Greenworks in New Zealand?

Trade Tested is the New Zealand distributor for Greenworks. All warranty claims, spare parts, and support are handled locally by Trade Tested — call 0800 800 880 or email support@tradetested.co.nz. Greenworks is manufactured by Globe Inc and is one of the world's largest battery-powered outdoor tool brands.

Are Greenworks ride-on mowers available in NZ?

Greenworks ride-on mower availability varies — contact Trade Tested at 0800 800 880 or support@tradetested.co.nz for current stock and pricing. Note that ride-on mowers use a different battery platform to the 24V and 40V ranges — batteries are not interchangeable between voltage tiers.

What's the best Greenworks lawn mower for a standard NZ section?

For a standard residential section (under 500m²), the 40V 460mm Brushless Lawnmower with 4.0Ah Kit is the most popular choice and one of the highest-reviewed Greenworks products. For smaller lawns or easy storage, the 24V 320mm Brushless Lawnmower is compact and lightweight. For larger properties, the 40V 460mm Self-Propelled model with a 6.0Ah battery reduces effort on slopes and longer sessions.

Greenworks 24V Garden Sprayer 15L Skin

Fantastic sprayer

Bought this brand as have a leaf sucker for a few years and is faultless. Thought I would have 1 battery for both but sprayer isnt 40v so had to end up buying a smaller battery which was frustrating. However thats my fault for assuming and not checking. The sprayer is brilliant and great quality. Really good full harness . Does a great job and so easy to use Barry

Battery sprayer

Very happy with this after using a manual pump action sprayer for years. Only 10 litre versus the old one which was 15 litre, so that was the compromise

24v Greenworks garden sprayer 15L 2.0Ah kit

Was looking for a new 15 litre, battery-powered backpack sprayer to replace my ageing manual unit. One thing that stood out on this Greenworks unit was the harness and straps - looked sturdy and well padded. I had forgotten how wearing a 'proper' backpack - one the transfers the weight to the hips, and not the shoulders - is sooooo good. I do miss the ability to apply reduced volumes, i.e. for small/spot applications - as this unit is either full-on or off. However, this was clear from other reviews left so was understood going into the purchase. First outing was 2x 15l loads - hardly made a dent in the 2Ahr battery. Can be a bit of a fumble to locate the power switch, as a couple of other reviewers also highlighted. Recommend powering up before putting the harness on. Definitely recommended.

Greenworks 24V Garden Sprayer 15L Skin

It is far better than what I thought. Was sceptical to start off with. Light on back and shoulders and efficient in spraying. Only gripe is would be good if the spray nozzles ends that come with it are better identifiable to the manual.

Great item and value for money

I've used our unit for a month or so now. It's really efficient in battery use. The backpack straps are more comfortable than expected too. Overall so much better than our old hand pumping unit.

Greenworks 24V Garden Sprayer 15L Skin

Comfortable and easy to use.

Appears to be good quality, and built to last. A number of different nozzles for different applications, but I use only the one that is adjustable. Takes a while to locate the on/off switch once mounted! 0therwise, comfortable to wear and use.

Battery powered weed sprayer

This is so much easier to use than a standard hand pump version. The small battery is plenty for general spraying over 2hrs worth and still more in the battery...The harness is very comfortable. I wish I had bought one sooner.

Greenworks 24V Garden Sprayer 15L Skin

Great sprayer

Very good product. We have a large property and border a farm so a lot of weeds on the fence line. We did have a manual backpack sprayer, but it was tiring using the pump action to get the pressure up to be able to spray. This one makes the job quick & easy.
